Patient Advocacy Conferences

The months of October and November are known in the leukemia community for holding several important events run by the different patient advocacy networks.
Our colleagues of the CLL Advocates Network held the CLL Horizons Virtual Conference 2021 on 5-7 November. It was a unique opportunity for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, patient advocates to learn about  treatments and latest research, hear from fellow advocates on key topics, and meet and network with others discussing issues facing CLL patients.

Our colleagues from MPN Advocates Network successfully held 6th MPN Horizons Conference on 12-14 November 2021. Delegates from  MPN member organizations from all of the world attended this virtual meeting to exchange ideas, share best practices and provide a platform to start networking across borders. We are pleased to congratulate our member in Argentina, ALMA  Asociación Leucemia Mieloide Argentina, that will virtually held the 1st International Congress for Patients with Leukemia on 24-27th November 2021. The conference language was Spanish.
This was an excellent opportunity to take part of the leukemia patient community updating  knowledge on all types of leukemias (CML, CLL and AL), patient advocacy and communication from key experts as Dr. Jorge Cortés, Dra. Beatriz Moiragui or Dra. Carolina Pavlovski, gathering over 5000 attendees from all regions and making this conference a remarkable online event for the leukemia community.

On 18th November, we were attending the European Cancer Summit 2021 and our co-founder Jan Geissler was also participating in a panel discussion about  “From plans to action” – “The European Union Cancer Mission & Research”  bringing the patient voice to this valuable European forum. In Jan’s words, “The EU Mission Cancer has many good plans in terms of addressing prevention, inequalities, cancer research and data interoperability, but I am worry about lack of meaningful patient involvement.”
 
ASH2021 is fast approaching so that we have prepared a selection of the most critical presentations on CML to be made at the 63rd ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition to take place  in Atlanta, Georgia – and virtually – from December 11-14, 2021, like the following:
• Oral Abstracts presentations: “Progress with response prediction and TKI discontinuation” or “Mechanisms of resistance and expanded therapies”
• CML Education Program “Success Breeds More Success”
• Special Interest Session with the participation of our co-founder Jan Geissler “The Role of Real World Data Collection in Hematologic Malignancies”.
